Hi, I am Pete Losavio Certified Elder Law Attorney to talk about the necessity of advance medical directives.
If you do not have a comprehensive advance medical directive ( not just a living will ), then you are not prepared for a medical crisis. When your life is on the line, it is important that you have made the medical decision for your treatment and not place the burden on your family to make life or death decision during a crisis.
In a recent Huffington Post article about COVID-19, Dr. Asha Shajahan said "it is especially stressful to make this kind of decision when the stakes are high, as they often are now..." This is why it's important to understand the end-of-life treatment options and to make choices before a crisis occurs. Nobody wants to imagine the worst, but the worst is a callous reality.
